A regulated profession, a practical approach

A company using crypto-assets still needs to run a business: issue invoices, pay suppliers, prepare its accounts and explain its transactions. The challenge arises when records are spread across banks, exchanges, wallets and protocols. A balance shown in an application is not enough to reconstruct that history.

HODL Consulting connects these operations with your accounting records. Our work can cover bookkeeping and annual accounts, a defined crypto scope alongside your existing accountant, or financial management and reporting.

Understand your business and transactions

We start with what you actually do: hold assets for your own treasury, receive customer payments, operate mining equipment or provide services to third parties. We identify the entities involved, the accounts used, decision-making responsibilities and available information. This prevents a commercial sale, an internal transfer and an asset purchase from being treated as the same event.

Reconstruct usable records

Exchange exports, public wallet addresses, bank statements and supporting documents need to reconcile. A transfer between two wallets owned by the same company must not be mistaken for revenue. Fees, conversions, refunds and movements with unidentified counterparties need explanations. Tracking tools help with reconciliation; discrepancies still require analysis.

Document the treatment and prepare the accounts

The working file connects transactions to supporting evidence and the accounting treatments adopted. Depending on the agreed engagement, it can include an inventory of accounts and wallets, reconciled movements and balances, unresolved discrepancies and the information needed to prepare annual accounts. The scope, responsibilities and deliverables are specified in the engagement letter.

Establish a repeatable process

Year-end work is easier when records are collected throughout the year. Together, we define how often to export data, which documents to retain and which checks to perform. For a new business, this means establishing a method before transactions begin. For an existing activity, it means reconstructing the history while preserving traceability.

Our partners

Before getting in touch

To prepare an initial conversation, tell us about your activity, company structure, use of crypto-assets and the support you need: company formation, historical bookkeeping, year-end accounts, recurring support or a specific assignment. The number of exchanges, wallets and transactions helps us understand the complexity involved.

Do we need to have already invested before contacting you?

No. An early discussion helps identify organisational questions and the records to retain before you begin. If your company already holds assets, we start with the existing history and available documents. The aim is to adapt the work to your actual circumstances.

Can you work alongside our current accountant?

A crypto-specific engagement can be considered with your accounting firm. We then define who collects data, performs reconciliations, prepares the accounting treatments and incorporates the work into the accounts. This arrangement is established before the engagement begins.

Which documents should we prepare?

Start with a list of business accounts and wallets, available exports, bank statements relating to the transactions and key documents such as invoices, contracts and decisions. Public addresses identify on-chain movements. Private keys and recovery phrases are not accounting documents to send us.

How are scope and fees determined?

They depend on the work required: transaction volume and type, number of entities, quality of historical records, tools used and frequency of reporting. Reconstructing fragmented records is different from supporting a business with well-documented transactions. We clarify the work and responsibilities before engagement.

Where should we start learning about the subject?

Our guide to corporate crypto treasury sets out the initial questions. The pages for medical professionals, mining and equipment, and crypto service providers and MiCA examine distinct situations. You can then explore our articles and insights.
